Detection of hepatitis C viral RNA in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded liver tissue

Abstract
Hepatitis C virus(HCV) is known the most common causative agent of non-A, non-B virus which induce post-transfusion hepatitis . It has recently revealed gene structure and simply detected by serologic assay for antibody against multiple epitope.
It is impossible to interpretate that sero-positivity means whether the disease is progressing or past infection but also early acute phase of infection.
In order to know pathophysiology of HCV hepatitis. it is important to detect HCV directly from liver tissue. So fresh-frozen liver tissue is generally used but it is difficult to preserve and need many equipments. In many pathologic laboratory.
Liver
tissue is fixed by formalin and embedded paraffin for routine histological examination and preservation.
L successfully detect HCV-RVA in formalin-fixed. Paraffin-embedded liver tissue using the nested PCR in 7 patients that have chronic C hepatitis. This method may give many retrospective informations about HCV hepatitis and a correlation between
HCV
and
chronic liver disease.
